HOW THEY CHANGE WORLDS: “Where has the time gone?” – no question could be more applicable to a stay at Kasiiya. Lisa and Nicolas’ wonderland – buried in Central America’s dry tropical fruit forest – is a reminder of the value of time and the importance of sustainability. Hours fly as guests’ days are filled with unforgettable experiences showcasing nature’s beauty and bounty – from sunset walks on horseback to guided hikes beneath forest canopies, exposure to the elements plays a part in embedding in travellers an appreciation for our planet. And if the activities aren’t enough to pull at their ecological heartstrings, guests need look no further than Kasiiya’s carbon footprint – from acquiring 100 per cent of its energy from renewable sources, right down to their use of environmentally safe bath products and towels, their zest for sustainable living is practically infectious.
NAME: Hotel Hangaroa
HOW THEY CHANGE WORLDS: A travel experience that doesn’t enrich lives isn’t good enough for Hotel Hangaroa. Far from a meaningless ‘holiday’ that gets tossed in with the dirty laundry after arriving home, this Chilean sanctuary on Easter Island focuses on an immersion into local culture that’s guaranteed to move travellers to their core. Whether they’re touched by the warm greeting of a flower necklace upon arrival; blown away by the bold streaks of the Tahai sunset; or bowled over when following the steps of the first king of the island during its period of colonisation, guests can expect to leave carrying a dizzying wanderlust along with their souvenirs on the plane back.
NAME: Gibb’s Farm
HOW THEY CHANGE WORLDS: If travellers can’t find peace and tranquillity here, they won’t be able to find it anywhere. Enveloped by the picturesque forested slopes of the Ngorongoro crater, Gibb’s Farm brings a nurturing element to luxury: by adapting to their leisurely way of life, guests learn the mindful art of existing in the now while basking in the rich culture of times gone by. From taking the time to appreciate the traces of East African culture in the architecture and at the historical coffee farm, to feeling the ground beneath their feet while walking through green, exotic pastures, slowing down is paramount to a Gibb-style enlightenment. By the time guests say their goodbyes, these life lessons will morph into a lifestyle – and trust us, it will be one that’s there to stay.
