What burning question or challenge keeps you up in the early hours?
A problem shared is a problem halved, as the saying goes – and we happen to believe that an idea shared is an idea doubled, too. With this experiential economics in mind, for MATTER 2016 we want to give our community the opportunity to speak out about the challenges that really matter to them in an informal, collaborative setting that encourages different points of view.
We’ve already launched SPARK, for those keen to get up on the stage and pitch their idea for how Small Promises Change Worlds. However, not every concept can be condensed into a few minutes or is evolved enough for a full presentation. That’s where DISCUSS, our PUREists’ chance to lead a conversation about the issue that keeps them up at night, comes in. Here’s how it all works and what you need to do to get involved…
In a nutshell, DISCUSS consists of several informal discussions with groups of up to 40 PUREists. We’re inviting any member of the PURE community attending MATTER 2016 to volunteer to lead a discussion on Monday 12 September. The instigator will spend five minutes introducing their topic before handing over to the crowd to challenge, question and deliberate further, with DISCUSS sessions running simultaneously – the audience will vote with their feet as to what they want to participate in. The aim is to inspire collaboration rather than find a concrete solution (although if you manage that too, good work!).
We want DISCUSS leaders to tell us their burning idea around the theme of ‘overcoming the challenges of experiential travel’. If there’s a problem you want to discuss or solution you want to put forward, this is your opportunity to get live feedback from the crowd and build upon the viewpoints of those around you. At sister event Conservation Lab in May, DISCUSS topics raised included:
- How Do We Motivate Government?
- Playing The Game: Involving Generation Z
- How To Leverage The Data Generated By Travellers
- Harnessing The Power Of Celebrity In Conservation
- 50 Shades Of Grey: Animal Sanctions & Interactions
…but ultimately, it’s up to you to tell us what challenge you want to highlight or resolve. Just remember: this is not an opportunity to sell, but to uncover new ways of tackling a problem.
If you want to seize the opportunity to lead a discussion on a challenge that matters to you, your moment is now! Aspiring DISCUSS leaders must fill in the form below by 7 September at the latest to tell us how they would tackle the theme of ‘overcoming the challenges of experiential travel’ – to be in with your best shot, make it as engaging a title as possible. If you make the cut, on the morning of 12 September you will be asked to claim your spot on the DISCUSS board. You must be able to hold the attention of the room and be prepared to motivate conversation around your chosen topic. Sorry, strangers – DISCUSS slots are open to the PURE community only.
